Miracle Row‧Janis Ian
By Janis Ian
EDSD 2045
(MCI)

• This is the Edsel label’s third release in its re-issue programme of legendary singer-songwriter Janis Ian’s catalogue. All the releases contain annotation by Janis herself and photos from her own collection.
• “Miracle Row”, originally released in January 1977, was Janis’ fourth album after her return to recording in 1974. Recorded with her touring band and self-produced for the first time, the songs were inspired by the Hispanic area of Manhattan. “Will You Dance?” was another # 1 hit in Japan, and also features here in a bonus live version.
• “Janis Ian II”, released in 1978, was produced by Joe Wissert whose CV includes The Turtles, Earth Wind & Fire, Boz Scaggs, Gordon Lightfoot and the J. Geils Band. Wissert brought in top session musicians, but the stand-out performance is Janis’ piano playing on “Hopper Painting”. The bonus track in a live recording from 2003.
