Revenge & Hunger (2 CD)
By Janis Ian
EDSD 2047
(MCI)

This is the Edsel label’s fifth release in its re-issue programme of legendary singer-songwriter Janis Ian’s catalogue. All the releases contain photos from her own collection.

• “Revenge”, originally released in 1995 on the short-lived Beacon label, was produced by Janis and John Jennings (well-known for his work with Mary Chapin Carpenter), who hired Janis’ dream band (including Steve Gadd and Willie Weeks) for the recordings. For Janis, it is “probably the happiest, most commercial album I've ever done", and it includes "Berlin", written with Linda Perry of 4 Non Blondes.

• “Hunger” was issued in 1997 and was co-produced with Jeff Balding (known for his work with Trisha Yearwood amongst others), with one track produced by Ani DiFranco. Another commercial-sounding album, it was recorded at Bearsville Studios and in Nashville.

• The bonus tracks are live recordings from 2003.
