| "Promise" is thus a fascinating document of a first encounter and, at the same time, the birth of a musical idea that Omar Sosa will carrying forth into the future. Two appearances at the studio of broadcaster NDR's famed "Jazz Concert Series" brought him together fort he first time with paolo Fresu, a trumpet player from Italy. Sosa drew on the appeal of that encounter and expanded it to include the West African cultural sphere. With Mola Sylla, a poet and vocalist from Senegal, this ist he first time the cuban pianist has immersed himself more intensely in the West African cosmos. For Omar Sosa the intensity of the recordings that arose brought not only the wish for an album release: Once merely the working title for a concert, the concept of "Afreecanos" was born as a studio project to be developed further. |
