Beginner’s Guide To Ska charts the progress of ska from it’s 1960s hey-day to the present and includes many worldwide hits and club anthems. Unlike most ska and early reggae compilations which usually stick to material from one label or producer Beginner’s Guide to Ska includes tracks from three of Jamaica’s leading labels: Treasure Isle, Randy’s & King Edwards, as well as the diverse latter day material on CD3. The compilation includes a finely balanced blend of both classic and rare tracks, including several available on cd for the first time. |

CD1 – tells the story of the birth of ska in the dancehalls of newly-independent Jamaica including several tracks that achieved chart success in the UK
as well as lesser known tracks that have, over subsequent years, become underground club hits.
CD2 – charts the musical evolution of ska, via rocksteady, into early reggae, the sound that became synonymous with Jamaica. Again, CD2 mixes tracks
that were U.K. top ten hits with lesser known rarerities.
CD3 – begins with the 2 Tone inspired ska revival of the late 70s and includes material from the 80s and 90s up to the present including major chart
hits from the Specials, the Beat and the Selector alongside the likes of cult band Ska Cubana and Sparky. |
