If only we could return to childhood.
Back to a time without worries, when you felt on top of the world.
When a father's kiss was enough to heal all wounds.
Sometimes inspiration arises from difficult moments. During a particularly hard time the singer Titilayo Adedokun wrote the song "A Child Again", which initiated her first self-produced CD and provided it with its title and motto.
Titilayo Adedokun has been heavily influenced by music from her early childhood on, be it singing with her mother or in the children's choir. Children's songs in Yoruba and English were followed by folk music and church music from Handel to Bach. But when she was introduced to the catchy melodies and the voices of Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole and Sarah Vaughan, she developed not only a fascination, but a true love for jazz.
Through her classical vocal studies, her performances in numerous Musical tours and her involvement in a variety of recording projects by other artists, she came to know and appreciate even more the different music styles in their own beauty. Today, she still sees no need to decide: Each musical genre has its own place in my heart and in my voice!
When the desire to combine these different styles in one single recording arose, the wish list of songs to record grew continually. After an extensive process of selection, an extraordinarily balanced CD developed, showcasing the artist's versatility with musical pieces from every facet of her vocal skills: jazz, musical and opera!
The American-born singer with parents of Nigerian origin has a unique voice. Driven by her incredible feel for music, she has no qualms about recording a song that has already been recorded by other performers. She aims to give a personal touch to every song.
Influenced by her personal experiences, she reveals a variety of emotions in the self-composed pieces on the CD: She voices her anger in "Gimma Joy Back" and surprises with compositional versatility in the thoughtful "A Child Again", which fascinates both press and audiences alike. An impressive choice of successful solo artists supports her as band members, like Claus Raible on piano, Guido May on drums and other big names in the jazz scene who contributed their vast expertise to the project.
Besides her native language of English, she also feels musically at home in Italian, German and Yoruba. She prefers to sing every song in its original language because the essence and the emotional context of the text is often lost in translation. In doing so, she finds an additional link to the various musical styles.
Nevertheless she stays true to her words and dreams quite often of being a child again... |
