Classics from one of the most musical cities in the world – New Orleans – soon to be back on the musical agenda thanks to ‘Treme’, a TV series from the producers of ‘The Wire’ due for broadcast late 2010// early 2011. ‘Treme’ is the story of New Orleans post Katrina and is told through the experience of various musicians from the city.
New Orleans is universally considered to be the birthplace of jazz and on CD1 ‘Trad & Blues’, we’ve collected together a killer set of jumpin’ jazz classics & blues belters from legends such as Louis Armstrong, Professor Longhair & Jelly Roll Morton.
CD2 ‘Rock n’ Roll’ sees us getting down and dirty for some stinking grooves courtesy from the likes of Frankie Lee Sims, Big Boy Myles & Huey ‘Piano’ Smith And His Clowns.
New Orleans has also been a prominent centre of funk and is home to some of the greatest funk bands such as The Meters who feature on CD3 ‘Funk & New Brass’ alongside other funky legends Allen Toussaint, Lee Dorsey & Dr. John plus leaders of the new school of New Orleans funk such as Hypnotic Brass Ensemble & The New Birth Brass Band. |
