| Now global jazz singer Jenny Evans is back with "Lunar Tunes" -- a collection of songs about the moon, that shining incarnation of poetry and fantasy. This time the music ranges from the 17th century to Sting (remember Mr. Sumner's Dowland project?), from Dvorak and Satie to Glenn Miller and Henry Mancini. Entering new worlds of emotion and refinement, though never forgetting her roots in jazz, Jenny Evans chose her accompanists very carefully. One of them is Walter Lang, the Munich-based romantic on the piano who meets the singer here in pure duet settings also. Márcio Tubino, the Brazilian allround genius, well known for his involvement in Rosanna & Zelia's final album, contributes arrangements and wind solos. There are even some exotic sounds coming out of a shruti box and udu and there is a string quartet that adds jazzy lines and harmonies. On Jenny Evans' new album "Lunar Tunes", the moon is the symbol of a big dream, a brilliant worldwide vision. It's one small step for Jenny Evans, one giant leap for jazz. |
