On 12 October 2001 the cd "Pao" was officially released at the Shatin Tower Hall, Hong Kong, where Chinese guitarist Eugene Pao and the Mads Vinding Trio gave a concert. Eugene Pao is among the Asian continent's most highly respected jazz guitarists. He plays electric as well as acoustic guitars, and he has a beautiful "classical" sound. And like Vinding he shows a fine sense of melody in the exquisite standard tunes chosen by the band. There are first-rate contributions from Pao himself, but also from Olivier Antunes, who once again proves that he is one of our major young pianists. And Mads Vinding and Alex Riel are in great shape - as always.
Even on a background of global high tension, music is still able to cross boundaries and continents. |
