Beginner’S Guide To South Africa
By 南非音樂精華 (3 CD)
NSBOX 067
(Nascente)

• South Africa has given us some of the most memorable voices from the African continent the soaring, passionate alto of Miriam Makeba, the purr and pounce of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, the amazing sub-bass groaning of Mahlathini and these artists and many others all feature on Beginner’s Guide to South Africa.

• From the earliest colonial days until the present time, South African music has created itself out of the mingling of local ideas and forms with international influence, giving it all a special twist that carries with it the unmistakeable flavour of South Africa.

Track Listing:
• CD1: South Africa Now! features the current movers & shakers of South Africa such as nu-soul diva Simphiwe Dana, avant-rock from the hyped BLK JKS, hip-hop-afro-poppers Freshly Ground, reggae-influenced kwaito from Bongo Maffin and a track from the new darling of South Africa’s house scene Black Coffee.

• CD2: Rainbow Shoots highlights the musicians who were popular around the birth of the Rainbow Nation and who continue to exert an influence on the music of this country such as Boom Shaka, Skwatta Kamp, Sakhile, Mandoza and Lucky Dube.

• CD3: Township Roots features the artists who came to define apartheid South Africa either with stirring politically charged protest songs or their dreams for a future outside of apartheid such as Hugh Masekela, Dorothy Masuka, Miriam Makeba, Ladysmith Black Mambazo & Mahlathini & Mahotella Queens.
