Considered by many to be the origin of humankind, it comes as no surprise that there are few, if any, other continents that have such a diverse and important musical heritage as Africa. This compilation dips its toe into exploring how this music has filtered into the productions of today's more adventurous recording artists.
The 'Beginner's Guide' features artists with crossover success, such as Zero 7 and Masters At Work, as well as the left-sided underground sounds of hotly tipped producers like Recloose and Solid Groove. Elsewhere, more established African artists, such as Salif Keita and Femi Kuti also feature, but are given a new lease of life with remixes from Osunlade and Da Lata respectively; and the future of African music is in the mix too, with Lekan Babalola, Kokolo, and Swedish afro-beaters Rameses Revolution also turning up the heat and keeping the spirit of the drum alive. |
