In summer 2003, Nascente Records released the original "Beginners Guide To Salsa", compiled by top UK Latin DJ Lubi Jovanovic. The format of three CDs mixing contemporary and classic salsa sequenced in tempo order (CD1 slow, CD2 medium, CD 3 fast) was groundbreaking at the time, and the CD was a hit with both absolute salsa beginners as well as experienced aficionados! It went on to become one of the biggest selling UK salsa compilations ever, shifting in excess of 70,000 units!
This new 2008 edition replaces the original with a 100% brand new selection of tracks to keep things fresh for today’s salsa scene, and is once again compiled by Lubi Jovanovic. Lubi keeps the format the same as the original (slow/medium/fast) and presents the 40 totally new tracks with new sleevenotes representing some of the biggest names in salsa music Celia Cruz, Eddie Palmieri, Joe Arroyo, Willie Chirino, Victor Manuelle, Charlie Palmieri, Sonora Caruselles and many more fine Latino musicians. |
